McCabe Makes Surprise Appearence

Founding Verve member Nick McCabe made his first live appearance in eight years at the weekend (July 22).

The guitarist joined Bristol band The Nova Saints onstage during their performance at Ashton Court Festival in Bristol.

It was the first time McCabe has played live since quitting The Verve following their homecoming show at Haigh Hall, Wigan in 1998.

McCabe - who has been working closely with the unsigned five-piece on recordings for the past year - was welcomed onstage for the band's final song, the appropriately titled 'The Last Song', to play guitar on the track which is heavily indebted to Verve guitarist's early work.

Since quitting The Verve eight years ago, McCabe has worked with both John Martyn and The Music, but has kept a relatively low public profile.

Some of the guitarist's work with The Nova Saints can be heard on their Myspace.com

Richard Ashcroft In Shock Arrest

Richard Ashcroft has been arrested after bursting into a youth club and asking to work with the teenagers present.

Witnesses told today’s (June 21) Sun newspaper say the singer, fresh from his headline stadium show in Manchester last weekend, refused to leave The Bridge club in Chippenham, Wiltshire on Monday (June 19).

Staff called police and Ashcroft was taken into custody for a couple of hours, then given an £80 fixed penalty fine for disorderly behaviour and released.

Around 60 youngsters in their early teens were at the club when Ashcroft showed up.

Ashcroft performed his biggest ever solo gig at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester on Saturday (June 17). DJ Shadow joined him onstage for a version of the UNKLE track ‘Lonely Soul’.
